I joined the Hull Geological Society in 2009 after returning to my home county and was particularly pleased to see the society had made great progress in understanding the glacial history of Flamborough Head, through their Flamborough Quaternary Research Group, an area of great interest to me from an early age.  After college and university I joined the hydrocarbons exploration and production industry based at various times in London and Aberdeen. More recently I worked as a Quaternary field mapping geologist with the Geological Survey of Ireland based in Dublin. My own research interests are in the understanding of Quaternary climate change, more particularly the chronology, extent and dynamics of Late and Middle Pleistocene ice sheets in Britain and the North Sea Basin with a strong emphasis on field work and getting dirty! In 2012 I was appointed an Honorary Fellow within the Department of Geography, Environment and Earth Sciences, University of Hull after holding a similar post in the University of Aberdeen for a number of years. I still undertake geological/sedimentological consultancy for exploration and production companies, both reservoir evaluations and leading field study trips to potential reservoir analogues around the UK. My greatest enjoyment has always come from working on geological problems with friends and colleagues within the society, universities and industry.
