On the Endless Here is a collaboration between artists and geologists to create new work exploring the geology of Flamborough Head, an area of international importance on the east coast of Yorkshire.
With rock sequences dating from the Upper Jurassic through to the Cretaceous chalk, and Quaternary deposits crucial to our understanding of glaciation, as well as hosting one of only two mainland gannetries in the UK, the headland has been designated as a Special Area of Conservation and a SSSI.
Through geological field trips and dialogue with members of the Flamborough Quaternary Research Group, a selected collective of multidisciplinary artists will investigate the rich geological heritage of the coastline as well as draw upon the differing perceptions of artists and scientists when visualising and interpreting complex geological narratives.
The exhibition launched at Studio Eleven gallery in Hull on 13 September 2014 and will tour in a variety of formats to different venues and festivals around the UK.
