Mike Horne  has a BSc in Geology, and a PGCE (Higher Ed) from Hull University. Mike is a Fellow of the Geological Society; honorary life member of the Hull Geological Society; member of the Geologists' Association, Quaternary Research Association, Yorkshire Geological Society and a founder member of  East Yorkshire RIGS Group. His published research specialisms include Chalk stratigraphy, biostratigraphy, geochemistry and micropalaeontology, Quaternary of Holderness and the history of the study of geology in East Yorkshire.

 

Mike is the ‘face and voice’ of geology within this region, with long and successful experience teaching geology adult education classes at Hull University, leading associated field-research projects, and organising academic conferences. 

He has also writes poetry, so in his own words: 

"The Siren, by Mike Horne

(this haiku was inspired during a visit to Bridlington: the call of the sea, the sound of the waves breaking on the shore, the noise of the pebbles being sucked back into the clear blue waters, the gulls gliding in the blue sky, the wispy white clouds...)"
